Ceramic Sculptor & Painter

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, and raised in Caracas, Venezuela, Veronica Pochat developed an artistic sensibility shaped by lush tropical landscapes, organic forms, and the vibrant beauty of nature. Her grandmother, an artist who explored different mediums with fearless creativity, was an early influence, inspiring an appreciation for artistic freedom and expression.

Pochat’s work explores the relationship between nature, movement, and the human form, particularly the graceful curves and quiet strength of the feminine silhouette. She is drawn to the fluidity of forms that bend, unfold, and transform, finding beauty in their subtle imperfections.

Working primarily with hand-built paper clay, she approaches sculpture intuitively, without preliminary drawings or a predetermined outcome. Each work evolves through a dialogue between emotion, memory, touch, and material. Impressions of places she has visited, shapes encountered in nature, and feelings not yet consciously understood seem to emerge through her hands as she works.

“I do not always begin with a story to tell. Sometimes, the story reveals itself through the clay.”

The deeper meaning of a sculpture sometimes reveals itself only long after its completion. Looking back, Pochat may recognize traces of an emotion, a particular moment in her life, or a period of transformation. What began as an instinctive gesture becomes a reflection of personal experience, capturing something that words might never fully express.

She often leaves her sculptures white and unglazed, allowing light and shadow to reveal their textures, contours, and quiet elegance. Her paintings offer another dimension of expression, where color, movement, and spontaneity guide an exploration of the relationship between intention and chance.

Across clay and paint, Pochat remains fascinated by transformation and the expressive possibilities of materials. Her work invites viewers to discover the beauty of movement, the intimacy of form, and the subtle connections between nature and our inner lives.

“Where a writer finds expression through words, I find mine through clay.”
